Jigging in the rocky areas where large king fish, amberjack live, or in deep areas 100 to 250m deep, requires physical strength to use heavy tackle all day, as well as the arm strength to instantly pull large fish such as greater amberjack and huge dog tooth tuna away from the rocks.

In situations like this, when aiming large fish, we recommend the OceanArrow series, which is designed to fight large fish and has both torque and lifting power. However, when exploring the field through rod testing, we found the need for a rod that combines three elements: “light and sharp operability throughout the day,” “sensitivity to read the tides,” and “lifting power,” and so we began development of the New SELFISH series.

AJ (Aggressive Jerk) is a series that, as the name suggests, excels in aggressive and quick action.

It is easy to produce a sharp sliding action and the rod is easy to control the timing while feeding, making it easier to feel the lure and then the drop that is the fun and thrill of high pitch jigging.

In terms of rod characteristics, this has the high tension and recovery force of the SELFISH series, and with its stiffness all the way up to the tip, it has the highest rod response in the series, allowing you to impart solid action to heavy jigs even when jigging in deep areas or in places with strong tidal currents.

In addition, this series has the quick start-up action that is typical of stiff rods, and the ability to create line slack freely and make it easy to move the jig sideways, allowing you to efficiently explore reactions from a completely different angle than rods with soft tips and easy-to-use natural action.

One of the concepts of the three SELFISH models being added in 2025 is the ability to conquer deep areas.
The AJ series is a model specialized in inputting high-speed actions that create a strong appeal with a sense of speed vertically and horizontally when using heavy jigs in deep areas, but the SEB 615 is specialized for games where you can freely manipulate jigs in deep areas without being restricted by a variety of actions that are not limited to jerk methods, taking advantage of the high operability and winding torque of the overhead reel, and searching the reaction from the target for a wide range.

It features high sensitivity that allows you to input actions with varying speeds while reading the ocean conditions, including high speed one pitch jerks and sideways sliding jerks, as well as technical jerks for fall actions with slow pitch to try not to let jig move not too much.

The SEB series deliberately has a milder blank with less tension than the AJ series and a more responsive tip. This allows the med-section of the rod to work as the fulcrum for the action, preventing fatigue even when deep jigging, and allowing you to explore deep areas more deeply and in more detail.

The current SELFISH series is categorized into three types: “AJ (Aggressive Jerk)”, “NS (Natural Swim)” and “SEB (Sensitive Bait)” to accommodate various jigging scenes.

The AJ series has a strong overall stiffness and hardness, so compared to the NS and SEB, it feels about one power stronger when fishing with them.

Each rod has a different taper design so that they can be used in various situations such as water depth and tidal pressure.

Please choose them according to the situation of the area you are visiting and the season, etc.

The comfort weight of the new 2025 model AJ 604 is set at 150-230g, but it has excellent stiffness and recovery force and has the high operating response, so it can handle a wide range of weights for heavy jigs, even jigs up to about 400g.

The comfort weight of the AJ 5105 is 180~320g, but as it is a shorter length model with stronger and stiffer than the AJ 604, it can handle heavier jigs up to about 500g.

The SEB 615 has the action fulcrum at the mid-section of the blank, so it can handle a narrower range of jig weights than the AJ series, but by taking advantage of the winding torque of the overhead reel it can handle weights up to about 400g of jig.

This is only a guideline, so please use the appropriate jig weight based on the characteristics of the area and the speed of the tidal current.

What Ripple Fisher was looking for in the SELFISH series was not a rod that would make jigging “easier”, but a rod that would make jigging “fun”.

Of course, you can continue jerking comfortably all-day long jigging, but I think the most important thing is to get the feeling that you are getting the bite with the intended operation at your will.
